The Rookie
Details
Imagine a man who has reached the age of forty and is living an ordinary life in a small town, but who can no longer silence the restless voice within him. Most people give up at that point, stand still, and say, "It's too late." On the contrary, John Nolan shows the courage to radically change his life and knocks on the door of the Los Angeles Police Department. The problem here is this: No one expects someone his age in the corridors of the LAPD. At first glance, The Rookie may seem like a classic police procedural. But this world created by Alexi Hawley goes far beyond that mold. The series covers street crime, complex cases, and thrilling chases that reflect the pulse of Los Angeles, while also telling a deeply human story. The openness given by inexperience and the wisdom brought by age trying to exist in the same body make John Nolan one of the most interesting characters of this genre. Nathan Fillion is almost like the voice of his generation in this role. While adding both humorous and vulnerable moments to the character, the audience never feels like they're watching a forced performance. The team next to him completes this equation; from Melissa O'Neil's cool and deep character to Eric Winter's presence that fills the ambience, each name creates a whole that feeds each other. It is no coincidence that the series lasted for nine seasons and reached 144 episodes. Each episode both tells an independent story and contributes to the characters' long-term journeys. While the action scenes keep the tension high, the balance between drama and comedy remains intact; the transition between the humorous scene and the heart-wrenching scene feels utterly natural. The Rookie also serves as a subtle warning. It quietly imparts the lesson that belated dreams are both possible and costly, and that self-awareness must step in where courage falls short. Going after John Nolan in the noisy corridors of the LAPD, on the tireless streets of Los Angeles offers a satisfying experience for anyone who is both looking for excitement and believes that he can still change things.

What a great show! No propaganda, agenda or any political BS. Characters are very well developed. You care about them, you love them. I really can't say anything bad about this show. It's great. Definitely deserves 10/10!

**Score: 7/10 — A Fun, Flawed, and Unapologetically Idealistic Procedural** *The Rookie* succeeds because of [not in spite of] its well crafted contradictions... It is a show that is at once deeply entertaining and profoundly naive, a character-driven workplace drama wrapped in the glossy, sun-drenched packaging of a police recruitment ad. For what it sets out to do—provide optimistic, weekly escapism with a beloved cast—it earns its keep, even as its disconnect from reality grows more pronou...

Really good. Like really good. The way it navigated through the drama following George Floyd's death was really good. A balance between a need for reform and a need for police. Well done.

It started off REALLY good, and I was getting into it. It's one of those shows my wife watches that I would reply with "I liked it more when they called it Hillstreet Blues," and then I would joke that "what are they going to call it in season two or three, they didn't think through the title, did they?" But it started growing on me from the start, and it was only teasing. I was actually getting into it. And then 2020 happened and it took a HARD left wing turn It fell apart. It took a bit...

TIM BRADFORD (ERIC WINTERS) is sososososososososo *insert breath* sososososo fine! I want him to be my baby daddy. The other characters are okay I guess, but I watch it just for Tim. His physique is INCREDIBLE *insert heart eyes emoji*. Jackson West is another fine character, but not as fine as Tim Bradford. **PLEASE NOTICE ME TIM BRADFORD!**
