Childhood is a period that is often underestimated in the eyes of the elders, whereas the imagination, sense of discovery and pure intensity of emotion it contains constitute perhaps one of the richest layers of life. This Australian-made animated series seems to exist precisely to remind us of this fact. When you step into the world of Bluey, a six-year-old Australian cattle herding dog puppy, you may think that you are encountering an ordinary children's animation at first impression. Colorful illustrations, cute characters, seven-minute episodes... But within a few chapters you realize that the work before you offers something far beyond its genre. Each episode focuses on an ordinary moment spent with Bluey's family. A game played in the park, the hustle and bustle before dinner, a minor disagreement with a friend. But in the hands of creator Joe Brumm, these ordinary moments turn into stories that quietly bring to the surface the deepest questions of human relationships and parenting. While the series appears to be aimed at children, it actually knows how to touch the hearts of adults properly. As a parent, viewers may find themselves teary-eyed during many episodes; both because of their longing for their own childhood and because they remember how complex and beautiful the journey of parenthood is. The reason why the series creates this effect is not only the emotional stories, but also the fact that the characters are written realistically and consistently. Bluey's father, Bandit, is not perfect; he is a father who gets tired, sometimes impatient, but who truly tries to be present for his children. As for her mother Chilli, she is both strong and fragile, both patient and human. These balances present the true fabric of life, rather than imposing an ideal of perfection that disturbs the viewer. Keeping the sections short is also a separate sign of mastery. Everything is self-contained, clean and true to its purpose. Jul. There is no unnecessary scene; every dialogue carries weight. This is the kind of series that you can turn on not only to watch with your child, but also when you just want to offer yourself something small, warm after a long day. Bluey once again proves how powerful a narrative tool animation can be.
