In an age when hand-drawn animation is almost facing extinction, Genndy Tartakovsky takes his faith in art to the screen and immerses the viewer in a world where language, words, and even civilization itself have left behind. At first glance, Primal may seem like a simple survival story: a caveman, a dinosaur, a silent alliance between them. But beneath this surface lies something much heavier, something much rawer. Tartakovsky almost completely rejects dialogue as a narrative tool. Not a single meaningful sentence comes out of the characters' mouths; emotions, bonds, and pain are conveyed solely through looks, postures, and movements. Although this choice may initially feel like a limitation, over time it becomes the series' greatest strength. While looking at the screen, the viewer realizes that they are not merely watching something, but actually experiencing something. Concepts such as loss, fear, anger, and solidarity penetrate us directly without the need for any language. The series does not compromise on its visual boldness either. The organic rigidity inherent in hand drawing gives violent scenes both a realistic weight and an almost ritualistic dimension. Bloody, savage and sometimes overwhelming, these scenes do not turn into a spectator show; on the contrary, they remind you what a brutal struggle it is to survive. Primal uses violence as a tool, not as a decoration. With the second and third seasons, the story goes far beyond the prehistoric background. Different time periods, new characters, and unexpected themes come into play; but the core themes of loneliness and the need for connection remain unchanged throughout the series. This unlikely friendship between man and animal is gradually gaining a universal meaning: common suffering, common enemy and common desire for survival give rise to bonds with the deepest roots. Dec. Primal shatters every prejudice that positions animation as "something for children." This is a rare and unique work that pushes the boundaries of modern animation and leaves a lasting impression after watching.
