Bridgerton
Details
Rising from the foggy streets of London, this series pursues something much deeper while bringing the gilded salons and gossip-shrouded society of the Regency era to the screen: the struggle of an individual overshadowed by expectations to find his or her own voice. Bridgerton, which Netflix has turned into a global phenomenon, may seem at first glance to be all about elegant costumes and romantic suspense, but beneath the surface it carries a deeply modern spirit. Adapted by Chris Van Dusen from Julia Quinn's popular novels, this series centers on the Bridgerton family with ten children, processing each person's own love story through a different season. When it comes to period drama, this is not a clichéd Victorian seriousness that appears in the mind; on the contrary, it is a colorful, breath-taking narrative that combines the social restrictions of centuries ago with the emotional reality of today. Striking costumes that challenge traditional period aesthetics, an anachronistic music selection and a deliberately inclusive understanding of the line-up transform Bridgerton into a structure that redefines the patterns of the genre. Perhaps the smartest choice in the series is to present high society with a fairytale-like charm while never hiding the corrupting pressure within. Young women turned into commodities in the marriage market, men carrying the family's honor on their shoulders, those forced to hide their identity... All these voices are struggling beneath Lady Whistledown's anonymous gossip newspaper. This tension gives the series a depth that goes far beyond being a mere period-specific embellishment. From Ruth Gemmell's meticulously drawn matriarch figure to Luke Newton's performance, which matures from season to season, the cast looks at the characters from a real inner world, not just from the pages of novels. Yerin Ha brings fresh energy to the series with the dynamism carried over from recent seasons. Bridgerton offers an experience beyond a nostalgic escape. It both immerses the viewer in a magical past and confronts them with questions that still persist within that past. This series, which asks what love, identity and freedom mean, never stops making you think between the waltz tunes that rise from the ballrooms.Dec.

Bridgerton is a period drama that surprisingly featured sex scenes, but most importantly it also featured a diverse cast as well as modern music. My only regret though is that the couple could've continued the rues until the last two episodes, and them getting married would've been in the second series. But I suppose it is uncertain if there would be a second series, despite high praises from viewers. In any case, whether or not there will be a second series, the ending left this series on a s...
